People like us

He was free and casual as usual, and also being serious after a fashion,  saying

something I could not understand, but about the subject I was concerned myself with.

It was always like that. I've got to wait for coming to realize what he meant by saying all that.

And he said something like "right after him, us, and then it is you. People like us just can't help it, right?"

It was the moment that I felt flattered and damned.
